Allergic to Letter ‘e’ Challenge – A Lady in Muslin

Gunnison

My blogging friends Mark and Solveig have both nominated me for the Allergic to Letter ‘e’ Challenge.  They have challenged me with writing an entire paragraph without using the letter ‘e’.  I wrote two whole paragraphs.  My response to the challenge is below:

A Lady in Muslin

Long ago, I was young and my hair was still auburn. I took a trip with my Mum to Gunnison, Colorado. Our task was to count blooms of a particular plant on a mountain top. During our stay, I was put up in an old mining shack.  First night of our visit, I was lying on my cot, as night slid by, rays of moonlight shining through dusty windows, dozing away, snoring sonorously. A crackling of pointy nails on old planks of wood and I sat up straight in my cot.  Scratch, scratch, scratch, pointy nails on wood. I shook clouds from my brain, still again, waiting for an annoying scratching sound. On all fours, I did look, but could not spy an originator. I stood from my cot and looking through a door’s window, I saw a lady strolling with moonlight shining on a flimsy nightgown of muslin. A quick turn of said lady’s shadow and I with horror shrank back, hiding in shadows. My fright was naught and looking again, I saw nothing.

Again, on a following night, as I lay on my cot, scratch, scratch, scratch.  Stupidly, looking through a window, I saw a ghostly shadow in a flimsy muslin nightgown standing IN FRONT of my mining hut, staring. I flung my body into my cot and hid in my pillow. On my third night, I lay in my cot, not dozing, but waiting for a scratch, scratch, scratch of pointy, tiny nails on old planks of wood. Without fail and punctually, scratching sounds did start. I was drawn to a front window. To my dismay, in front of my window, only half a foot away, stood said lady, with moonlight shining through a skull with hair and a flimsy nightgown whipping back with gusts of wind. I instantly lost my mind and was unconscious until morning. My Mum found my body, laying with arms out, not moving.

Here are the rules that I must follow in order to meet this challenge.

1) Write a whole paragraph without any words containing the letter “e” even once.

2) By reading this, you are already signed up.

3) Challenge at least five bloggers to do the challenge. They must do it within 24 hours or it is considered as failure.

4) If you fail or pass, suffer in the Page of Lame.

5) If you win, wallow in the Page of Fame.

My nominees are:

I hope it is okay that I didn’t nominate anyone.  I find that much harder to do than write two paragraphs without the vowel ‘e’.

  1. wow, that was amazingly cool. no letter e in that sentence either. lol.

I should try it to see if I can do it as well. By the way, I have what I believe is the final version of that bell track finished.

      • When I realised that I was tagged, I was a bit scared, and then I decided to tag others as it was fun and a great practice.

      • I was the same. I thought when I first saw the challenge, how on earth am I ever going to manage that. It took me about two hours to do. I spent most of that time sitting on the patio staring at the garden trying to think of words without an ‘e’.

  2. Ohhhhh! Moody Blues? Or the actual Timothy Leary (who I had to look up about on Wikipedia – sounds like a kind of a whacky guy). I thought the Beatles sung about him too – maybe not.
