Has El Nino Arrived?

Rain in July 008 (2)

It’s raining,

It’s pouring,

The old man is snoring!!!!

November is almost upon us, and here in California, we have been waiting with bated breath to see if the El Nino will unleash its promised precipitation upon us. Most of us, at least all the people I know, have the Weather Channel app on their phones and frequently check to see predicted precipitation percentages daily.  For the last week or so, the sky has been filling with the fluffy, wind-swept clouds that promise a change in weather.  Yesterday, the skies filled with thick, foreboding clouds bringing the darkness of night earlier than usual.  But yet, the Weather channel said zero, zero, zero for chance of precipitation, and zero all the way along the 10 day forecast.

Here’s the thing though, I have had the worst headache for about 5 days now. I get rain headaches.  They are these aching, pulsating headaches that pummel away at my temples.  My Mum says I get rain headaches because the sawdust inside my head becomes gets damp.  I think it has something to do with the drop in the barometric pressure.  Over the last few days, I have been quite puzzled by these headaches, as the Weather Channel rain forecast has not indicated any chance of rain.  Well, it turns out, the Weather Channel is wrong and I am right.

I woke up this morning to the slapping of big drops of rain on the tile of the patio outside my window. My Great Dane, Mikey, refuses to come outside.  He, unlike the rest of us, dreads the rainy season.  Imagine a 150 pound Great Dane tip-toeing through the raindrops to pee. Whenever I see him doing his little dance I think of Tiny Tim and “Tip-toe Through the Tulips”.

Hopefully, this is the start of a beautiful rainy season for us, and I pray it doesn’t start, sputter and die out by December, like it did last year. Fingers crossed!!!!!!
