If wearing a mask should be a personal choice “because there really isn’t any proof masks prevent spread of disease”, is everyone comfortable with members of surgical teams choosing to wear, or not wear masks in the Operating Room?

I’m a bit cynical but I suspect the insistence of some folks that wearing a mask is infringing their liberties is simply a demonstration of the skill and power of the folks influencing them, either a deliberate demonstration of capability to government and the establishment, or as a test run.
Ahh – so it is not really the issue of wearing the mask, but the issue is being told to do yet another thing, by a bunch of yahoos. We have to wear masks all day at work, and you just get used to it. It is not a big deal, and it sure has saved me time and time again, considering the amount of times I have been exposed to patients with COVID – and I am usually inches from their face (I work in Pediatric Otolaryngology – ENT).
Yeh, when people start talking about all the thousands of medical professionals who’ve died or the huge numbers of people in the far east who’ve died as a result of wearing a mask to walk to work I’ll probably take the anti mask arguments a bit more seriously. Some people are exempt for good reasons but for the rest of us, it seems only polite to try and filter some of the pathogens out of our breath.
And the great thing is – you don’t have to do a teeth check after lunch, or smell anyone’s bad breath, or worry about chapped lips. There are so many advantages to wearing a mask – besides it being potentially life-saving.

There are far too many Covidiotic Maskholes in the Disunited States of America!
In short, such Covidiots are no longer concerned with objective reality and impartial truth, nor reachable with verifiable facts, argumentation and fair reasoning.
There seems to be no limits in the extents and varieties of human failings, foibles and follies rooted in self-interest, irresponsibility, irrationalities, oversights, prejudices, misbeliefs, misjudgements, misrepresentations and (eco)systemic injustices. I often even have to coin new words to describe them. The latest examples are my three neologisms “Misquotation Pandemic“, “Disinformation Polemic” and “Viral Falsity“, as discussed in my extensive and analytical post entitled “Misquotation Pandemic and Disinformation Polemic: Mind Pollution by Viral Falsity“, which can be easily locate at the Home page of my blog.
It has been all too deplorable if not despicable that such folks affect not just themselves but also plenty of others.

We know that masks prevent airborne illnesses from spreading. I don’t get why people won’t do this one simple thing to protect themselves and others. Same with the vaccine. Now a whole bunch of people are paying the price and it’s tragic. Freedom won’t do anyone much good in the grave.
I just don’t understand the mentality behind refusing to wear a mask. At the very least, why wouldn’t one want to protect themselves from everyone else’s germs? I think after this is all over I am still going to wear a mask, I have made it through 2 winters without any illness – and that is unheard of – especially working as closely as I do with children.
Our health clinic is town said that because of mask wearing, social distancing, and hand-washing, they had almost no regular flue cases last winter. Not that this needs to be the norm, but it makes sense with a deadly pandemic. I think some people’s idea of freedom – “freedom to infect” – is heartless.
I completely agree, but they forget about how they now have the “freedom to be infected”.

I’m a totally vaccinated person back to wearing a mask in public, SD, because I choose to take the extra precaution after reading/hearing about how the Delta variant has played ping pong with the world no matter if you’ve taken the vaccine or not.
And I’ll be on line for my booster as soon as I find out where and when.
Me too! My work is making everyone get their vaccines, so our booster is coming in September. I hear quite a few of the staff are leaving because they refuse to get the vaccine – which basically means they are going to have to leave the healthcare field altogether – because I don’t know of many healthcare facilities that don’t insist on their staff being vaccinated. Curious times for sure. Can you imagine if people had acted like this in World War II – thinking only of themselves?

Yes, I wear my mask every where and I will until this is all over, and maybe beyond that.
I so applaud wearing masks and am thankful we have them to be able to have somewhat a normal life. We wear ours everywhere and shake our heads with how the virus has spread so easily with masks not being worn. Stay safe and be well!!
